Excellent,... but not without it\'s problems.

Like a lot of Trek fans I grew up watching the original series and wanting a phaser of my very own. Over the years there have been many available props from varying sources, with very mixed results. I myself am a prop fanatic, and while The DST Phaser is very nice, it\'s far from perfect. It not only has aesthetic inaccuracies, but flaws in it\'s design that do effect it\'s functionality.

When I first received mine I was amazed at how light it was. Every other phaser prop I\'ve held has always had a solid construction with a bit of heft to them, usually due to the batteries in the handle, giving them a realistic feel. This thing feels cheap in your hands, lightweight but top heavy and overall fragile... When shaken ever so slightly, the loose buttons and knobs make it sound like a baby rattle. When I pulled the trigger, the sound was low and dull, with the flashing red nozzle getting on my nerves. The locking mechanism for the Phaser I doesn\'t really lock it into place. So it can be easily pulled off with a slight bit of pressure.

I really had a hard time taking this item seriously at fist, and after hearing the glowing praise for it, was a bit underwhelmed.

Those were my fist impressions of the phaser, which changed after some time playing with it. I came to terms that this isn\'t the studio prop recreation I\'ve always hoped for, and is in fact - A TOY. Eventually I did find a few things by going back and reading the instructions... The setting dial on my P1, which I thought was static, actually did turn. But mine was stuck in place. Pushing it really hard snapped it into the next positions, which eventually revealed the classic phaser sound everyone knows. Why the packaged phasers aren\'t set to this one by default puzzles me, but the dial now turns much more easily. Secondly, I was always too afraid to touch the knob on the back of the phaser II housing. Just looking at it, you can see the spindly peg that holds it in place, rather loosely I might add... It looks like a weak point that I\'m sure will break with enough play, but does work to give us that nice overload sound.

This made me much more comfortable with it\'s TOY status... for the price, it\'s really nice. No other toy has ever come even close to this in terms of quality for cost, and I\'m sure that we won\'t ever see anything this nice again.

But I was looking for more than a cheap feeling, but nice looking toy, and so, as I\'ve done with almost everything I\'ve ever owned... I started taking it apart.

First off, there is one defect that is completely the fault of the manufacturers. It should have been caught and fixed, but due to someone being asleep at the wheel, made it through to production. The battery compartment on the Phaser I has been molded in a way, that makes it impossible to completely close it, while there are batteries inside. Three squares molded on the inside of the cover, keep it from being screwed in all the way. As such, the phaser I does not sit in the cradle of the Phaser II properly. This is why the locking mechanism doesn\'t work. I was able to repair this by grinding down the inside of the cover to remove the excess plastic. It now sits flush with the Phaser II, eliminating the gap, and firmly locking into place. It is now impossible (beyond breaking it) to remove the P1 without pushing the release pin forward.

This is something I should not have had to do, and will not be easily fixable for a lot of people.

So, after having fixed the battery compartment, my major gripe is all the loose parts. After being dubbed \"trekkies first rattle\" by me and my friends, I went about isolating all of the major culprits of this. the loose deflector grid and dial, the P2 setting knob, release pin, the side knob and bezel ring which control the light. All of these things rattle rather obnoxiously in your hand.

The setting knob on the back of the phaser has two problems... it\'s loose, and has a weak pin. This could have been solved with a ridge around the pin that would keep it from moving back and forth. I created my own by cutting off one of the rings from the twist tie holders that originally held it inside the box. After splitting it in two and sanding it down a bit, it slid the 2 disc sections into place, a drop of glue, and now the knob has the support needed to keep it from snapping off, and the friction to keep it from rattling.

Similar efforts can be used on the other rattling parts of the P2... A bit of extra plastic to increase the friction prevents it from rattling around.

The P1 needs to be opened and have the hinges on the dial and deflector grid tightened to prevent them from rattling. I did this with a tiny bit of electrical tape around the pegs.

After doing this, it greatly altered my feel toward the piece. It\'s feels solid now, less cheap and prone to breakage. It still doesn\'t fix several of the aesthetic issues, but stops it from feeling like a toy, and more of a licensed prop.

VERY FUN TOY!!! :)

This toy is AWSOME!!! Has great sound effects just like the ones from the movie! Has 4 settings and an overload feature that will make a humming sound ending in an explosion-like sound!

Type 1 phaser removes from the type 2 phaser pistol! Pull out the gold-bronze colored pin gently to release the type 1 phaser.

The type 2 phaser has a few knobs and buttons as well. The trigger is obvious. There is a knob just above the trigger which lets you turn the LED light on or off. The overload switch is on the top back of the type 2. Turn the knob so it clicks and press the trigger. The beam emmiter has a turning diam that lets you adjust the brightness on the type 2 phaser.

The type 1 has a rubber trigger on the bottom. The dial on the left will flip up the silver grid. Do this and you will get better sound. The dial on the right will change the settings. You have to turn this dial when the type 1 is attatched or seperate from the type 2 to change sound effects.

My only complaints are very minor.

1. Sound is a bit too soft.

2. Pull the trigger to far or twist the overload dial too far and the type 1 will pop off. This is because of the loose pin.

3. Why not use AAA batteries? It uses LR44/AG13 batteries.

OVERALL, GREAT TOY!!!!!!!!! :) All Trekkie fans will be very pleased!

VERY great value. It is worth the cost!!! :) STrongly encouraged to buy!!

Awsome phaser on the cheap

Relatively durable and well-priced original Series phaser replica, full phaser and detachable hand phaser. A very fun phaser replica for its price. I would not recommend it for small children as it is only plastic, but for plastic it is extremely durable.

Seems to be easily broken. Not easy to figure out. Laser light doesn\'t really shine any real distance or change frequency like it says it does. not enough variations of sound. I have other space guns that are more fun to play with.

The Biggest \"Big E\"

Wow. I got this in the mail today. The box is huge. I\'ve bought dvd players in smaller boxes. Against my better judgement (I don\'t have time to start on this right away), I opened the box (even the box is solid) and was confronted with two warp engines and the primary saucer filling the box. I know they say it\'s 32\" (the box says 35\"), but that still doesn\'t prepare you for the first sight of what is going to be one very large model. Sprue after sprue of plastic fill the box, including a ton of clear plastic for the main deflector, windows, photon torpedo tubes, and the warp nacelles. This kit just begs for lighting. But even if you don\'t, this is still an amazing kit. There\'s detailed interiors for the officer\'s lounge (below & behind the bridge), the arboretum (the big windows in the secondary hull) and the shuttle bay (complete with several types of shuttles). Oddly, though, there is nothing for the rec deck (the larger square windows on the back right of the saucer).

And if the thought of painting the famous aztec pattern is a little too daunting for you, Round 2/ Polar Lights have thoughtfully included decals of the aztec pattern for the entire ship, allowing anyone to produce an attractive model.

This is a big, beautiful kit, and is sure to be the centerpiece of any modeller\'s collection. Definitely a \"must have,\" especially at this price.

Looks like Uhura

I bought this figure yesterday to go along with the Enterprise bridge play set. First the pros:

1. The figure looks pretty much like Zoe Saldana, who played Uhura in the film.

2. The detailing is nice.

3. The figure stands up reasonably well.

4. Uhura comes with a belt and a phaser, which fits snugly into the holster when not in use.

The cons:

1. The figure is not very poseable. Limited range of motion of the arms (no elbow or wrist motion) and the shoulders do not lift away from the body. Her arms can move forward and up and that\'s about it.

2. Her hands do not hold the phaser well. If the little rubber band breaks or is lost, its very difficult to make her hold her weapon.

3. She cannot sit in a chair at any bridge console because of her stiff plastic skirt. Even if they did bend, her knees are also quite stiff.

Overall, I\'d recommend her but I can\'t give her five stars due to the character\'s limitations.

Art Asylum is phenomenal! If you have never owned an Art Asylum action figure, you owe it to yourself to have one you can call your own. More than just an action figure, but a true piece of artwork. All joints move like they do on a real human being. The wrists turn, the elbows bend, the shoulders pivot. The hips pivot, knees bend and ankles turn. The head can turn left or right AND bend down or up - all in life-like realism.
In the package, Archer\'s helmet is a separate item, but it attaches easily and the rubber hoses connect to sockets in the back of his life support pack.
The pack is removeable by undoing rubber-like latches under his arms. The belt straps on his thighs are even adjustable. This looks like one of those one-of-a-kind items created for the cast or producers - not something affordable for fans. Exquisite detail.

A Pretty Good Repilca

The 1701-D is the second best of the first three Hot Wheels Star Trek Vehicles releases ( number one would be the Reliant, and it pains me to say, the 1701 Refit comes in third in this bunch ).

The overall sculpt is very good, with the component shapes and molded in details showing a high degree of accuracy. A nice playworthy touch is the ability to separate the saucer and stardrive sections, as seen in the television show and movies. The painted-on details are basic, but adequate, and better than the paint on the Refit toy.

Unfortunately, as with the other ships in this line, this toy is misleadingly labeled as diecast metal, with no mention of ANY plastic pieces. The only part of this model that is metal is the the upper engineering hull and the engine struts, which makes up about 10% of the whole toy. The rest of the ship; saucer, connecting dorsal, engines, and the underside of the engineering hull are all made of styrene plastic

( which is at least firmer than the soft PVC used in the Reliant and Enterprise refit toys ).

So, overall, it\'s a nice little display piece with a decent degree of accuracy, but loses points for the amount of plastic used in a product advertised as \"DIE CAST METAL\".

Hot Wheels does Star Trek: The Next Generation

Upon purchasing this toy/model, whatever you want to call it, I was very pleased to see that it largely lived up to the billing on the box - the stardrive section of the Enterprise-D is indeed die-cast metal. The saucer section is seperable from the stardrive, a very nice touch from Hot Wheels, but the saucer is not metal. It is plastic, albeit heavy plastic.

My only real gripe with this toy/model is that it is not as elaborately painted as the Johnny Lightning mini-models of Galaxy class ships, such as windows, cargo bays, escape pod hatches, etc.

However, I am pleased to add this ship to my collection of Trek models.

Unfortunately, the box claims that Hot Wheels\' collection of Trek ships also includes the Enterprise-1701 as she appears in the new movie, and a Klingon Bird-of-Prey, which I have yet to locate in either stores or on Amazon.

Dr McCoy 12\" Figure

I am writing this quick review up to answer these questions someone may have (I had similar ones myself):

This is the 12\" figure based off of Karl Urban\'s Dr McCoy on Star Trek 2009.

It is part of the Command Collection. Accessories include a phaser, tricorder, stand, communicator.

The McCoy figure comes wrapped very well, but if you are collector like I am and want to keep the box... it opens nicely from the sides. You don\'t have to wreck the package itself.

The figure is well worth the money, and buying from amazon was worth it. They shipped it in 3 days and it was packed very well. I couldn\'t find it in the stores at all.

Very happy with the product and the shipping :)

My warp nacells fell off

This is a good toy for a while but eventualy the warp nacells will wear out and fall off. Mine no longer work and i cant get new ones. But the other startrek ships by Art Asylum and Diamond Select Toys are very durable. Like the Enterprise A and E. They are great.

Even better than the Playmates Trek models

When Art Asylum originally gained the contract to make Enterprise and other Star Trek toys, I was more than a little skeptical for a couple of reasons. For one thing, I didn\'t think that a toy company whose reputation rested on making replicas of Eminem and other sort of fringe genre figures would be able to appreciate the delicate art of pleasing the very demanding (myself included) group of hardcore Trekkers out there.
I was wrong. Art Asylum has done a superb job with the Star Trek contract, and has turned out the most beautiful set of toys I\'ve seen, toys definitely meant for the \'adult collector\' range of buyers. And this model of the Enterprise NX-01 is the jewel in the crown.
I purchased it right away when it came out almost a year ago, and was immediately struck by the quality and detail of the design. Clearly the creators of this \'toy\' were thinking about its potential as a display item as much as a toy -- the stand, for example, is much sturdier than the more flimsy versions that have come out with previous starship models and attaches to the ship in a clever and ingenious way.
About the only downside to this model is there are some fit and finish issues which could have been improved, and to get the full effect, you have to download and attach some decals from their website. None of that has bothered me much, however, and I\'m very pleased to own one of these for myself!

Great looking model, poor quality nacelles

I was disapointed in how the nacelles kept popping off!! I ended up using superglue to keep them on.
Other than that, its a very nice looking model, feels sturdy, much more durable than a plastic model you put together.

The detail on this is great. Art Asylum actually took the time to do the \"aztecing\" paint scheme on the hull. As for the nacelles most people complain about, I have never had a problem with mine. On mine the sound effects aren\'t that great. Going to warp sounds good, but the torpedo one is horrible. Even though the sound effects on it aren\'t the greatest I still strongly recommend the NX-01, just for the detail in the paint job alone.

Beam me up (if you can).

I think this is a really cool toy, with some design flaws.

Firstly, the control panel will not activate the transporter, even when plugged into the base. Secondly, the transporter is a pretty tight fit for most of the figures. (Nero looks very uncomfortable.) Finally, I bought all of the figures to complete the round base, but once the base is completed it no longer fits into background that holds the transporter.

Overall, cool concept, decent construction...some design flaws.

Bottomline, still fun, but don\'t feel compelled to get the extra pieces.

Interesting and mildly entertaining.

I just purchased this item today and can honestly say it is better than \"The Bridge Playset\". You can see my review on the \"Bridge\" as well. Once again with this set you get a cheap plastic mat but the \"movie sounds\" and overall appearance are great.

Unlike the Bridge, with this set a kid can actually play with it and get involved and there\'s not as much equipment (pieces) that could get lost or broken. Like the Bridge, you have to collect the \"Galaxy\" figure set to complete the overall appearance, but with this set, if you have the 10 figures you are only missing one piece that in the scheme of things is almost trivial.

This set when moved around looks completely different and not only is it fun to play with but equally great for display. *NOTE for those who don\'t pay too much attention, take the inserted cardboard piece of Kirk out of the transport tube before trying to use*. The added feature of connecting the control panel to the \"stage\", and having buttons on said control panel that activate the lights and sounds is definitely COOL. However the display image on the box and backs of the \"Galaxy\" figures is a bit misleading. The display image shows it looking as it should when completely put together, but in this mode the control panel buttons do not work, however, on the instruction sheet it explains this.

Here again I took a piece of matte finish gold poster board, and laid the mat on it, then laid a piece of clear plastic board like Plexiglas on top. This mat is much smaller than the Bridge mat, so it cost me .89 cents for the board and $2 for the plastic overlay at a local hobby shop.

Overall, this is a fun toy to play with and display.

STAR TREK 40TH ANNIVERSARY - ENTERPRISE D

Quick shipping by Amazon vendor, Toynk Toys. Box was well packed and everything in brand new condition. Enterprise D is the Captain Picard era version. It looks real good in this diecast model. Great for display on the supplied lighted stand. The round saucer is however made of hard plastic and not diecast metal. The lower part is metal. However, this does not distract from its looks at all. If the saucer part was made of metal it would be front heavy and out of balance in its feel. This replica is really all you need of this particular ship. The support stand is delicate and can easily break if too much pressure is applied when moving the ship. The two star durability rating is for the support stand only. The ship itself is a 5. Not recommended for children. This is a display piece. However, if you feel the urge, take it off the support stand and fly your heart away! Warp 10 - Make it so !

It took only a week !

I live in Turkey. Whenever I purchase something from the internet (from USA, Germany etc.) it takes several weeks until the shipment arrives (via normal delivery). I had this product today on my desk. It took only one week, whereas I expected it at the end of February.

The package was in a very good condition. and so is the enterprise.

The only \'negative\' thing I could say about the product is in the pictures it looks not that much like a simple toy, but a .. well maybe souvenir or something more valuable. imo the photos should be much bigger and at a higher resolution.

that said, I\'m glad that I\'ve purchased it.

Star Trek Fan\'s Delight

I bought this item as a present for a relative. The package came in the mail on the first day of the estimated delivery time and was in perfect condition. The ship and box were as described by the merchant. I definitely recommend buying this item from Toynk Toys.

Excellent...Affordable Collector Piece

I scored this little Corgi nugget for just over $20. Definitely a bargain. The ship is well detailed and contains all of the care and attention to detail you would expect from Corgi. The box folds out around the model displaying stats on the Federation and the Enterprise. Its a nice addition if you are displaying your piece...not so muhc for the guys who keep their collectors items in poly bags. The base lights up the Enterprise well also. Buying this piece is a no brainer for even casual fans of the Trek universe. A bargain. One Note: I\'ve seen some of these where the box wasa little crushed from shipping etc. Any damage to the box detracts from the appearance if you are using it to display with your model. I\'d buy from a place with lots of positive feedback.

Awesome.

This toy rules!!! I wish this company made more ships...specifically the new Enterprise from this summer\'s film and also I wish they made some enemy ships so you can play fight lol.

Good toy but could be better...

While I do like this it does seem to be made from a cheaper plastic and it does have a few spots that could use fixing, one of the nacelles is bent on the front and is likely from the way it is made and the the piece the 2 nacelles connect to isn\'t fully connected to the main body of the ship.

Nice Repaint, But Not Without Flaws

This \'25th Anniversary Edition\' is a reissue of the \'NCC-1701-A\' model released a few years ago by Art Asylum, but with a new paint scheme, different sound effects, and molded in a different type of plastic. Although the mold is exactly the same, when you put the two editions side-by-side the differences become immediately apparent.

First, the entire paint scheme is different. The \"A\" version was molded in a basic light gray plastic, which approximated the look of the filming model but gave it a very toy-like and slightly unfinished appearance. The \"Khan\" edition is molded in a lighter, almost white plastic, and is finished with a an almost silvery, satiny white finish which - combined with the gently raised and textured aztec pattern mold into the hull - really does a nice job of capturing the look of the filming model. To be technical though, this look really more approximates the look of the filming miniature as it appeared in \"Star Trek - The Motion Picture\" rather than \"Wrath Of Khan\", since ILM ( who did the effects for the second film ) found the super-iridescent paint job originally given the model too difficult to work with, and ended up dulling the finish down to a less shiny patina. The toy is also given a gentle darker wash of paint which really helps to bring out the molded-in panel lines and recessed windows, although on some examples, this wash is a bit heavy and pools in some areas.

Unfortunately, the downside of this new version is the lighter colored plastic which the entire model is molded in. I presume the change in plastic was made to enhance the shinier paint job, but the newer material almost resembles the transluscent \"glow in the dark\" plastic that the old \'Aurora\' \"Frightening Lightnings\" Monster model kits of the 1960\'s and \'70s were molded in. This plastic is so transluscent that almost any light source shines through the hull. This is particularly apparent in the saucer, where the shadow of the speaker assembly is almost always visible in the bottom. This also allows the light from the various included effects to shine through the areas surrounding the intended illumination point. The \"A\" version, with its more opaque plastic, did not suffer from these light leaks. But overall, when the \"Wrath Of Khan\" model is just displayed unlit ( as it would 99% of the time ), it is much nicer looking than the first edition.

Both editions have the same poorly designed ball and socket stand which fits into the bottom of the battery cover. Care must be taken when inserting the ball as too much pressure will cause the stand to snap. My suggestion would be that you pick an angle you are happy with, and leave the model displayed that way, rather than repositioning the model very often. After the model sits in one position for a long time, the grip between the stand and battery cover seems to increase, and makes adjusting the position a rather dicey propsition ( believe me, I\'ve snapped several of these stands over the years ).

Still, even with these deficiencies, the model makes an attractive and affordable display piece for any Star Trek fan, especially one without the time or patience to build an elaborately detailed model kit.

Great sound effects.

I really enjoyed this model. It has great sound effects from the movie, and looks just like the \"Enterprise\" from the movie. My only complaint is that the ball on the stand for the ship didn\'t fit in the socket on the ship\'s battery cover.

Awesome Enterprise version

While the saucer section is a bit transparent, the rest of the ship is excellent and over all the detail is beyond awesome. My nacelles are a bit bent on the front ends rather than 100% perfectly straight and the box was well bent and crushed a bit, so if you are a collector and want in box items you may want to consider another item. I display my purchases I don\'t leave them in a box to collect dust until they are worth selling again so this doesn\'t matter to me much.

Great item, Great seller

Well, when i recieved the package, on time i might add, it didnt contain what it was supposed to, however when i contacted Redford Films, they refunded my entire purchase really quickly! I did end up buying one from a friend who had actually bought it from a similar seller.

I would say this ship is a toy, but not one for someone under the age of 6 due to how durable the plastic is. It is beautifully painted and very detailed. The lights that light after pressing the action button aren\'t as bright as they could be, due to it running on only 2 AAA batteries, but for the price it is a decent buy!

Not as good as older die cast versions

The ship is decent but there was only 1 sound effect that kept repeating for the ship and the vocals.

I\'m Geeking Out Already

The Enterprise E was the ultimate technological marvel in the TNG universe! This toy, while a little too high in contrast for me, is a great replica, the nacelles don\'t glow like they should, they\'re overall too grey.

The Stand is great so far, and the button to activate noises activates depending on how long you hold the button for.

No complaints yet, I\'m surprised even the original batteries worked!!!!

Enterprise E AA Toy

Very well done Enterprise E. Some may not care for the paint job, but over all this is a very well done job. The sounds a light are the highlight of this ship. They take it from being a static model, and bring it to life. Kudos to AA for thier line of Star Trek toys.

Outstanding kit!

Not only is this kit a steal at under $20, but it\'s a blast to assemble! I\'m an avid model builder and a Trek junkie so this was perfect! As mentioned in the other reviews, you have options for the three different hull/nacelle/bridge options and decals to make even more options including the Mirror Enterprise (I built the production/standard version). You can\'t beat the value there. I took mine a step further and glued most seams (to give it durability and a more seamless look) but even without this model looks great completed. I would also recommend the painting as it adds more realism. All in all, this kit is outstanding. Mine\'s hanging from the ceiling of my son\'s room now and I\'m planning my second one (Mirror version) for the office!

For my 11 year old son

I ordered the Star Trek Enterprise Kit for my 11 year old \"Trekkie\" son. I like the fact the kit is easy to put together. In a matter of hours in one afternoon, my son managed to not only put the model together, but also set it up so he could change out the Engine \"nacells\"(?) at his leasure. This is not the first kit I have bought for him from this company and each one has been a good challenge for him, but not a difficult one. I will continue to buy other models from this company in the future.

Star Trek 1/1000 scale snap kit

Very good detail, great model for such a low price, needs painting to look good (as all models doe) just becareful with the warp nacales (sp?) it can be a littile pain to put on since you have to slide the flap under two pegs when you connect the engines themselfs to the ship (you might make the flip bend the two pegs, thus carful)

Almost No Tribble At All

My first model kit of this type. For $9.99 I have to say its definitely worth it and very accurate to the Constitution-class vessel. The bridge section is a teardrop shape, not the round shape like the AMT Constellation. A lot of people have problems with the warp nacelles. A good solution is this: the nacelle pylons are two-piece; build this piece first and then assemble the warp nacelles. I think it rather unusual to show a picture of the assembled model with these crooked nacelles in the instructions but who knows why its a minor error at best. Also, the registry for the Exeter in this kit (without cutting and arranging) is NCC-1672 not following the registry given in Franz Joseph\'s technical manual.

I was very happy with this item. The ship is a very nice addition to my collection. I was very impressed with the lights and sound on the ship. It was cool to see all the flashing lights, it had more lights than I had expected. A must for any Trek fan.

Nice-but stand could have been better.

Love the model of the Enterprise, but the display stand is terrible. Very awkward and does not support the model very well. However the quality of the starship is great.

A fine light-up original series Enterprise

Crisp, clear sounds - very good for a toy of this type. Nice bright lights that have never failed to work - the nacelles slightly pulsate in brightness to add to their effect. The fact that you can set it to simply do its light effects (without sounds) is great. We hung this with fish line above the table for a Star Trek birthday party and it hung there and blinked (blank?) for hours without a hitch.

I feel compelled to nit-pick for those who nit-pick, so...The red and green / port and starboard lights blink too quickly (but that doesn\'t bother my five-year-old who plays with it)...The hull color is too dark a shade of grey...There\'s a couple weird dents on the underside of the primary hull...Unlike the eleven-foot model in the Smithsonian, it topples over on its stand easily...But man, other than that, it\'s spot on in my opinion. Diamond Select does a darn fine job of producing above-par Star Trek stuff for a great price, and this Enterprise is another good example. Definitely recommended. Get one before they can only be found at auction for three times the price! Live Long and Nit-Pick!

Good Value and good Rendering of original NCC-1701

For 31.00, this is a pretty decent value. Lights, and sound effects. The only negative, and I wouldn\'t take points off for this, is the stand. Absolutely worthless. I don\'t recommend using it. Too flimsy. It can\'t even take the pressure of pressing on the bridge to activate the lights. It would be better to be hung. The plastic on the hull is pretty hard, and it is constructed pretty nicely. Someone made a previous comment that the saucer section was not in correct scale with the rest of the ship, but I didn\'t notice this at all. It would make a pretty nice green screen rendering on video. If you don\'t have the 1500 for the Master Replica version, then this is the model for you.

Well now it reads 1701 REFIT

I guess the folks at Mattel realized their goof in labeling this ship 1701-A on the box and 1701 on the actual ship, so they re-named her 1701 REFIT on all the newer boxes. Unfortunately, they forgot to change the ship details on the back of the box, so it now reads like the 1701 REFIT was the result of the 1701\'s destruction near the Genesis Planet. Wrong.

Also, I agree with the others that the materials in this model could have been much more impressive, and the \"DIE CAST METAL\" ad on the front of the box is total bunk. Yeah, it\'s got 5% metal. So you can\'t just advertise die cast metal and forget to mention the 95% soft plastic. Ah well, it still looks nice on display.

Kind Of Disappointing

I suppose, being a big fan of the original television and movie Enterprise makes me more critical of commercial replicas of the ship, but I try to be fair, and aware of the limitations of companies that market mass-produced models and toys when I review them. But, I have to say that this toy was a bit of a disappointment to me. Of the three ships that Hot Wheels released in this first batch ( The Enterprise Refit, The U.S.S. Reliant, and the Enterprise-D ), sadly, this one comes in last in overall quality.

While the size and overall sculpt of this model is nice, it would have been much better if ( as advertised on the box ) it actually WAS die cast metal. Only about five percent of the model - the center section of the secondary hull - is actually metal. All of the other parts; the front and rear of the engineering hull, the engines and supporting struts, the saucer and it\'s connecting dorsal, are all molded in a soft PVC plastic. Talk about false advertising! At least on the companion Enterprise-D, the plastic parts are made of a solid styrene, and are less succeptible to warping in the molding process.

Also, while the shape and molded in detailing is pretty good, the paint application is really rather basic and poorly done. This is a bit surprising if you compare it to the Johnny Lightning version of the same ship, which is much smaller, but has a much more impressive and detailed paint scheme ( although, to be fair, the overall shape of the JL version is inferior to this version ). However, on the positive side, the translucent blue inset pieces for the deflector dish and the engines are a nice touch.

Also, every one of these \'refit\' toys I\'ve seen has the saucer out of alignment relative to the rest of the ship. This is no doubt due to the soft, and flexible nature of the PVC plastic that the saucer and it\'s dorsal are made of. This causes the toy to look lopsided and bent in the middle, right out of the box. Fortunately, there is a fairly easy fix; If you carefully apply heat with a blow dryer to the dorsal, then gently bend it to the correct position and hold it there until it cools, your model should end up in an acceptable configuration. But use care, and don\'t apply too much heat, or you can damage the toy. Again, if the toy were completely metal, or at least the plastic parts were molded in styrene, this kind of fix probably wouldn\'t be necessary.

So, I give this toy thumbs up for the overall sculpt, but deduct points for the finish, materials used, and misleading \"DIE CAST METAL\" legend on the box.

Detailed, but not entirely accurate

Overall, this is a highly detailed die cast replica of the U.S.S. Enterprise from the Star Trek feature films.

However, Hot Wheels has made a slight error, at least on the ones I\'ve seen on the shelf.

The packaging labels this as the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-A. However, if you look at the actual toy, the registry number on both the saucer and the warp nacelles lacks the \"A\", making it a replica of the Enterprise as it appeared in Star Trek: The Motion Picture, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, and Star Trek III: The Search for Spock.

The Enterprise-A appeared in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, and Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country.

Either someone at Mattel didn\'t do their homework properly, or someone approved this without knowing the full details.

In any case, the discrepancy between toy and packaging shouldn\'t matter much if all you\'re looking for is a good replica of the legendary starship to display proudly in your collection.

Better than I was led to believe

I read some of the other reviews of this product and though they were mostly negative the problems discussed did not sound insurmountable. When I opened it up, I was pleasantly surprised. The play mat is very thin plastic but it lay mostly flat the first time. As I opened the other pieces I laid several volumes of my encyclopedia of philosophy on it to further flatten it. It could not have taken me more than 10 minutes to open and assemble the other bridge pieces and two figures we\'d bought to go with it. When I removed the books at that time, the play mat was almost entirely flat.

We had no difficulty placing the other pieces on the bridge, or making figures stand in various locations.

My son, who is 5, loves it. He has uttered no complaints. I sat and played with him twice yesterday, and I have to say that in my opinion it\'s a very nice toy. It is true that you do not get a complete bridge, but you know that going in, if you can read. It says so on the box. It also says the bridge is a play mat. Now while a 5-year-old can be a bit clumsy when there are a lot of pieces in the way of his figures, at least they fall over rather than break. And a fallen console can be easily replaced. And let\'s be honest, what kid does not like a fight out battles and destroy things? They do it in the movies, after all.

The main view screen is a thing of beauty. A big image of the Romulan vessel fills it and when it is backlit (we have it facing the patio door) it\'s very realistic. There are two data screens as well and they also have nice graphics on them. The captain\'s \"center seat\" and the helm and navigation stations are nicely detailed and helps hold down the center of the mat and any ridges from its folding. The Kirk figure sits reasonably snugly in his seat or can sit in for Sulu, and I had no problem making his right hand grab the control in front of him.

I look forward to seeing the rest of the pieces produced, and crew members, for a fully equipped and manned bridge. I recommend this toy. For an adult, a lovely diorama could be made, but kids, if they\'re anything like mine, will love playing with it, destroying it, and setting it up again.

Not the best, but pretty ok.

I have read the other reviews on this product and I must agree with the fact that the plastic mat is cheap and mildly disappointing. However the box it comes in says \"playmat\" so you have a forewarning. One review states that the chairs do not fit properly into their base. The particular one that I purchased just yesterday all fit perfectly and the swivel action works as well. I figure the problem lies in the fact that if you read in fine print on the package, as well as the Galaxy figure collection, it states \"prototypes shown, final product appearance and colors may vary\". Unfortunately it sounds like someone may have purchased one hot off the line and all the bugs hadn\'t been ironed out yet. Speaking of ironing, the mat itself is rolled up and takes a bit of pressing, mine had been sitting under a heavy fixture for about 12 hours and other than the crease in the middle it lays flat. I happen to be a big kid and avid collector of things, and most of these things I generally display. I simply took a heavy black poster board and laid the mat on it, and intend to get a piece of clear plastic like Plexiglas to lay over the mat. The figure that it comes with is basically pointless as you have to buy the same figure in an individual pack to get the accessories which compliment the overall appearance of the Bridge. My biggest concern at this point is that as the reviews stated, you need 18 figures. So far I have collected all 10, and 3 of which have pieces that go to the Transporter Room, which requires 4 pieces. So this leaves 12 pieces all together for both rooms that to date have not been produced to my knowledge... they better be! Those who are parents might want to think twice before buying these products as it seems that these have been produced and geared more toward collectors like myself. Hopefully with all the movie hype and its\' upcoming nationwide premier next weekend the rest of the products will hit shelves by early summer. All in all this is not the best product, but it\'s still pretty neat, and I\'m sure once I get it completely pressed and break open the figures and start building, the end result will be worth it.

Definetly Worth The Money

I just got this at Target for $30 and it is worth the money. I like to sound that sounds like and alarm. When I hear it, I say like Kirk \"Trouble on the Spaceboard\". I have this displayed on my nightstand. I got this today with a Kirk glass from BK. The food was yummy so thank you for asking. I recomend this for Trekkies and fans of the new Star Trek film. So if you haven\'t seen it see it. And if you have see it again. I gotta go and remember Live Long and Prosper.

Cool, but half the size I expected from box.

OK, this toy is very cool. Larger Size Star Trek ships are pretty hard to find. They are released and disappear fast and show up being sold later for a high price.

My one disappointment, from the box size and picture on the front I was expecting a larger ship, twice the size. Thinking you would attach the saucer when you put it together. I opened the box and went, WOW, it is kind of small, 14 3/4\" long and 8\" high when on the stand. Even being smaller then expected, it is still very cool. The lights on the ship are very cool, lights up nicely, a great blue glow when you press the button with the red lighted thruster on the back of the saucer. A little too much talking and not enough ship sounds, but over all I am VERY pleased with it.

The base is very cool, it is blue and in the shape of the star trek logo. You are able to pose the ship in different moves for action looking display.

OK, but not worth $30

Had I paid $10 for this, I would have been very happy with my purchase. But having paid $30, I feel ripped off. It\'s definitely not worth $30 (except, perhaps, for the fact that it\'s about the only option available for the newest version of the Enterprise).

PROS: It looks nice and has good detail. It\'s a decent size (just over a foot). It lights up. And the display stand is cool.

CONS: It\'s quality is cheap and poorly made. Many screws are visible, especially under the saucer, and the battery case doesn\'t fit perfectly. The audio is limited and sounds nothing like Kirk (I\'m wondering if the toy manufacturer had their intern read a few lines into a microphone).

The lights come on only with the audio and stay on for only a few seconds. I wish there was an option to turn them on and have them stay on.

Well now it reads 1701 REFIT

I guess the folks at Mattel realized their goof in labeling this ship 1701-A on the box and 1701 on the actual ship, so they re-named her 1701 REFIT on all the newer boxes. Unfortunately, they forgot to change the ship details on the back of the box, so it now reads like the 1701 REFIT was the result of the 1701\'s destruction near the Genesis Planet. Wrong.

Also, I agree with the others that the materials in this model could have been much more impressive, and the \"DIE CAST METAL\" ad on the front of the box is total bunk. Yeah, it\'s got 5% metal. So you can\'t just advertise die cast metal and forget to mention the 95% soft plastic. Ah well, it still looks nice on display.

Kind Of Disappointing

I suppose, being a big fan of the original television and movie Enterprise makes me more critical of commercial replicas of the ship, but I try to be fair, and aware of the limitations of companies that market mass-produced models and toys when I review them. But, I have to say that this toy was a bit of a disappointment to me. Of the three ships that Hot Wheels released in this first batch ( The Enterprise Refit, The U.S.S. Reliant, and the Enterprise-D ), sadly, this one comes in last in overall quality.

While the size and overall sculpt of this model is nice, it would have been much better if ( as advertised on the box ) it actually WAS die cast metal. Only about five percent of the model - the center section of the secondary hull - is actually metal. All of the other parts; the front and rear of the engineering hull, the engines and supporting struts, the saucer and it\'s connecting dorsal, are all molded in a soft PVC plastic. Talk about false advertising! At least on the companion Enterprise-D, the plastic parts are made of a solid styrene, and are less succeptible to warping in the molding process.

Also, while the shape and molded in detailing is pretty good, the paint application is really rather basic and poorly done. This is a bit surprising if you compare it to the Johnny Lightning version of the same ship, which is much smaller, but has a much more impressive and detailed paint scheme ( although, to be fair, the overall shape of the JL version is inferior to this version ). However, on the positive side, the translucent blue inset pieces for the deflector dish and the engines are a nice touch.

Also, every one of these \'refit\' toys I\'ve seen has the saucer out of alignment relative to the rest of the ship. This is no doubt due to the soft, and flexible nature of the PVC plastic that the saucer and it\'s dorsal are made of. This causes the toy to look lopsided and bent in the middle, right out of the box. Fortunately, there is a fairly easy fix; If you carefully apply heat with a blow dryer to the dorsal, then gently bend it to the correct position and hold it there until it cools, your model should end up in an acceptable configuration. But use care, and don\'t apply too much heat, or you can damage the toy. Again, if the toy were completely metal, or at least the plastic parts were molded in styrene, this kind of fix probably wouldn\'t be necessary.

So, I give this toy thumbs up for the overall sculpt, but deduct points for the finish, materials used, and misleading \"DIE CAST METAL\" legend on the box.

Detailed, but not entirely accurate

Overall, this is a highly detailed die cast replica of the U.S.S. Enterprise from the Star Trek feature films.

However, Hot Wheels has made a slight error, at least on the ones I\'ve seen on the shelf.

The packaging labels this as the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-A. However, if you look at the actual toy, the registry number on both the saucer and the warp nacelles lacks the \"A\", making it a replica of the Enterprise as it appeared in Star Trek: The Motion Picture, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, and Star Trek III: The Search for Spock.

The Enterprise-A appeared in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, and Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country.

Either someone at Mattel didn\'t do their homework properly, or someone approved this without knowing the full details.

In any case, the discrepancy between toy and packaging shouldn\'t matter much if all you\'re looking for is a good replica of the legendary starship to display proudly in your collection.

I love Star Trek, from TOS up to the new movie- I\'m a fan. The new phaser, however, is lacking the elegance of the original prop. It\'s chromed out, and tacky... and the flip tip barrel is gimicky. Not a fault of the toy, as this is a fair reproduction of the movie\'s prop, but I have aesthetic issues with the design overall.

The playmates version of the TOS model, uses the dials to turn the toy on, making the toy function as a \"real\" phaser would. The movie toy, instead activates via hidden switch, and then \"powers up\" via the dial. Why not make both functions one-in-the-same?

Star Trek is back and even stronger in 2009. When it comes to toys - usually the best ones are in the hundreds of dollars and you hate to touch because of their price - however - Playmates is doing it right!

This PHASER has Detail, quality and Functionality. It is based on the new Star Trek film - and it is fun.

The PHASER is realistic looking with a silver casing. It has a light and sound effect of \"activation or charging\". This gives the users the illusion of \'control\'.

The best part is the PHASE BARRELL. One side has lights and sounds for Dematerializing (RED) and another series of sounds and lights for the Stun (Blue)setting. It has a flip control too - to quickly go from one setting to the other.

Durability: I can see really younger kids might \"over-flip\" the PHASE BARRELL to hard. But if you use it as if it were real - no problem.

Educational Value; Not really - but it\'s great for playing futuristic cowboys-and-indians! (If anyone remembers those!)

I\'m sure the cast and crew of the new movie had fun with the real props, but Playmates allows us to have our own fun too!

Beam me up (if you can).

I think this is a really cool toy, with some design flaws.

Firstly, the control panel will not activate the transporter, even when plugged into the base. Secondly, the transporter is a pretty tight fit for most of the figures. (Nero looks very uncomfortable.) Finally, I bought all of the figures to complete the round base, but once the base is completed it no longer fits into background that holds the transporter.

Overall, cool concept, decent construction...some design flaws.

Bottomline, still fun, but don\'t feel compelled to get the extra pieces.

Interesting and mildly entertaining.

I just purchased this item today and can honestly say it is better than \"The Bridge Playset\". You can see my review on the \"Bridge\" as well. Once again with this set you get a cheap plastic mat but the \"movie sounds\" and overall appearance are great.

Unlike the Bridge, with this set a kid can actually play with it and get involved and there\'s not as much equipment (pieces) that could get lost or broken. Like the Bridge, you have to collect the \"Galaxy\" figure set to complete the overall appearance, but with this set, if you have the 10 figures you are only missing one piece that in the scheme of things is almost trivial.

This set when moved around looks completely different and not only is it fun to play with but equally great for display. *NOTE for those who don\'t pay too much attention, take the inserted cardboard piece of Kirk out of the transport tube before trying to use*. The added feature of connecting the control panel to the \"stage\", and having buttons on said control panel that activate the lights and sounds is definitely COOL. However the display image on the box and backs of the \"Galaxy\" figures is a bit misleading. The display image shows it looking as it should when completely put together, but in this mode the control panel buttons do not work, however, on the instruction sheet it explains this.

Here again I took a piece of matte finish gold poster board, and laid the mat on it, then laid a piece of clear plastic board like Plexiglas on top. This mat is much smaller than the Bridge mat, so it cost me .89 cents for the board and $2 for the plastic overlay at a local hobby shop.

Overall, this is a fun toy to play with and display.

The toy was small but my son is a true Trekkie. He loved it and it was small enough that he could carry with him and not clutter up the car. It seems to be very durable. The price was fine even though I wish that it was a little bigger. He was satisfied so that is all that really matters.

The base is very cool, it is blue and in the shape of the star trek logo. You are able to pose the ship in different moves for action looking display.

OK, but not worth $30

Had I paid $10 for this, I would have been very happy with my purchase. But having paid $30, I feel ripped off. It\'s definitely not worth $30 (except, perhaps, for the fact that it\'s about the only option available for the newest version of the Enterprise).

PROS: It looks nice and has good detail. It\'s a decent size (just over a foot). It lights up. And the display stand is cool.

CONS: It\'s quality is cheap and poorly made. Many screws are visible, especially under the saucer, and the battery case doesn\'t fit perfectly. The audio is limited and sounds nothing like Kirk (I\'m wondering if the toy manufacturer had their intern read a few lines into a microphone).

The lights come on only with the audio and stay on for only a few seconds. I wish there was an option to turn them on and have them stay on.
